This month's WTF post, here's a buzz among the netizens about PAG-ASA, State weather bureau PAG-ASA has censored "Kanor" on its list of names for tropical cyclones. PAG-ASA this month released a revised list of names for tropical cyclones in the Philippine Area of Responsibility, with "Kanor" replaced by "Karding".
The weather agency said it removed "Kanor" because of alleged negative feedback from the public, citing a sex video scandal linked to the name on Tuesday (September 2, 2014), a move left many netizens cracking jokes that flooded the social media frequented by Filipinos in the Philippine and around the globe.
Who is Mang Kanor?
"Mang Kanor" is the moniker given to an old man whose seven-part or so sex video scandal with a minor spread like wildfire online a few years ago. No one is sure about his real identity nor is there someone who knows him out in the open but one claim said "Mang Kanor" was a cop. His name has become a meme of sorts and parody "Mang Kanor" accounts on social media have surfaced. A parody short clip of a fake movie on "Mang Kanor" has also been made.
With regards to PAG-ASA's decision to replace the name with "Karding," after "Kanor" for a current weather disturbance approaching the Philippine's area of responsibility, I guess some of the netizens doesn't seem to be happy with the agency's move. The hashtag #Justice4MangKanor has been coined for this outrage of renaming the said weather disturbance.
To add to this so called "Mang Kanor's" popularity, some novelty items are for sale online with the tag line "Keep Calm and Ask Mang Kanor." Google it yourself and you won't be disappointed :)
