A salute is a gesture or other action used to display respect. Salutes are primarily associated with armed forces, but other organizations and civilians also use salutes. The salute is “the most important of all military courtesies,” says a manual, titled “Customs and Courtesies,” for Marine Corps officer candidates. “In general, do not salute when… carrying articles with both hands or being otherwise so occupied as to make saluting impractical,” the manual says.

The video drew criticsm from some Instagram users, who saw the unorthodox salute as "un-presidential." While it is protocol for U.S. service members in uniform to salute the commander in chief, it's not required for a civilian president to salute back, military experts say. Former president Ronald Reagan is thought to have set precedent for the practice back in 1981. However one feels about today's salute, it's unlikely any coffee was at play. President Obama prefers hot tea.

There was a blitz reaction on social media. “Dear POTUS. Place cup in left hand and salute with the right. Please. You are embarrassing us,” one commenter said on the White House’s Instagram account.
Well, being the POTUS means all eyes of the public are on him even to the slightest move of a finger. But some regards the gesture (Salute Latte) not worthy of any attention or media exposure and some are out to find ways to always point out what is wrong of anything and everything. Though it might be unintentional, we'll never know. It's up to the readers and everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
The POTUS did it right on this one.
